  • Essay:
Although I have many heroes, I have one favorite hero who is drug free, healthy and fit. My heros name is Whitney Owens. I choose Whitney because she represents being all of these things. She promotes them by giving speeches about drug awareness, eating her colors, and exercising. Whitney has been promoting these things for over five years now due to 4-H. Whitney is now sixteen years of age. By watching all of the things that Whitney does, I too can live a healthier lifestyle. I agree with Whitney that all of these things are very important in life.

First of all, Whitney is my hero because she promotes being drug free. She promotes drug awareness by volunteering her time, putting together coloring books, and talking to children and young adults. One example of Whitney volunteering her time is during the 2009 ice storm. At the time, the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas was set up as a shelter. During this time, she lead workshops and put together coloring books and lead a workshop on being drug free. Whitney said, "It is important to be drug free because it shows respect for yourself, and it also shows that you do not want to hurt your body and you care about yourself. One other thing it shows is you like having control over your body, but people who do drugs sometimes cannot control their actions." I think being drug free is more fun than having to sneak around and not get in trouble.

Next, Whitney is my hero because she is healthy. Whitney eats her colors, promotes being healthy, and she leads workshops. You are probably wondering what I mean by eating your colors. When you eat your colors, you eat all of the basic food groups in the food pyramid, or eating the different colors in the food pyramid. Whitney also promotes being healthy. She promotes being healthy by letting the community know what they can do to become healthy. She also lets them know what to do to maintain their health. One way Whitney promoted being healthy was by volunteering at the two thousand nine health fair. She volunteered to work in the EFNEP group booth. (Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program). While working on the EFNEP booth, Whitney informed children and young adults about being healthy, but one area she focused on was on the health of bones. Whitney leads workshops. In these workshops, Whitney explains why it is important to be healthy. She also explains what could happen if you are not healthy. "I know that if I am healthy I can set any goal and the sky is the limit on how far I can achieve", said Whitney. I think it is important to be healthy because when you are healthy your immune system is stronger, you have more energy, and when you are healthy you do not lag around.

The final reason Whitney is my hero is because she is fit. Whitney is fit because she plays basketball and soccer, as well as promotes fitness. Whitney not only plays basketball for fun, but for physical fitness. Whitney also plays soccer. Soccer helps Whitney be fit because she is the goalie. Since she is the goalie, she has to be fit so that she can block the opposing teams shot. Whitney promotes fitness by leading workshops. Whitney has lead workshops at the Craighead Forest Park, Monette City Park and many other places. Whitney shows the participants simple ways to have fun and be fit at the same time. I think the simple exercises are fun.

In conclusion, Whitney Owens is my hero because she is drug free, healthy, and fit. When Whitney promotes, participates, and volunteers in being drug free, healthy, and fit she sets examples for younger children. I think Whitney has a wonderful purpose in life.
