  • Essay:
    Tobacco Tackle

My Granny Felts was the healthiest person in my family. Granny lived to be ninety-six years old and never smoked a day in her life. She had the best drug free lifestyle of anyone I know. Never, did Granny have health problems other than a bad back. Granny is my hero in many ways, especially with her tobacco free and very healthy lifestyle.

As a small child, Granny grew up on fresh food from the garden. Back then, they couldn’t buy everything that we have now. Granny’s children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren always had a good influence to look up to. She always had her family outdoors exercising and playing. People were also outside learning how to grow fresh vegetables and their own fresh food.

Once my Granny offered someone one hundred dollars to quit smoking. She also offered this to several others. Granny would always do whatever she could to get people to stop smoking because she knew it was a bad habit.

Until the age eighty-six, Granny worked in the garden everyday. Also in her eighties, she would walk two miles a day with a friend. Her children and grandchildren would play games with her such as baseball, bad mitten and others. My Granny also loved to cook healthy food. She loved steamed vegetables, especially green beans and garden fresh potatoes. When my Granny would cook meat, she always trimmed the fat. Then, when the meat was cooked, Granny would skim whatever grease was on the meat.

I would like to always try to follow the pattern of my Granny Felts’ life for my own life. No tobacco for me in my lifetime, and I will always eat lots of fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. I will work hard to enjoy the outdoors and to walk. I will take advantage of the fresh air and sunshine God has made.
