  • Essay:
    My Tobacco Tackle Hero!

Dwyane Harvell is my super talented brother and he is My Tobacco Tackle Hero. He is a 17 year-old senior in high school and the captain of the soccer team. Plus, he’s my older brother as well.

I bet there are a lot of other seniors out in the world who are doing tobacco today. But not my brother. Dwyane decided when he was younger that he was not going to try or do tobacco because he does not want it to effect his life in the future.

Some of my brother’s friends were smokers. They even offered him to try it one time but he said no because he knew it was the right thing to do and if my parents found out about it he would be in big trouble. Later he eventually decided he didn’t want to be friends with them anymore because they would always put him under pressure to smoke and would want him to do stupid things for them. He was not going to let it happen.

The way Dwyane stays away from smoking is because he really loves to play soccer. He has been playing since he was five. Dwyane knew that if he was going to be like the other kids at his school and start smoking that he would have to kiss his soccer dreams goodbye. Soccer and his family are the only things that are keeping him away from becoming a smoker. Since he is the captain of the soccer team he always has younger kids looking up to him and asking him for help. Dwyane also tries to make sure that none of the people who are playing soccer are not smoking or doing anything else that could effect there future life.

Ever since he let his friends go I could tell a change in the way he acted and the things he did. I know that it was really hard for him to give up his best friends but he did it so that he could live a better life. Also, because he wanted to continue his soccer career. He is always telling me that the only way to stay away from smoking is to find something that you want to do for a long time and to think about how smoking could effect you becoming better at life and the things you love the most.

He is my role model because he always tries to do the right thing and does not smoke or do drugs of any kind. He keeps me focused when I get distracted and start thinking about other things that are not as important. Dwyane is always telling me to step up and be a leader so that kids around me wont start smoking. He has also told me the only way to be successful is to stay away from drugs and don’t start smoking because it can ruin your whole future in a matter of seconds.

While he was telling me all these things I asked him how he knew all these things that would happen if I smoked or did drugs. He said because he seen some of his very close friends go through this situation many times before. Dwyane even encouraged a few of his friends to stop smoking because he knew that they just might have a very bright future ahead of them. He also has told them that smoking is not the way to go because it has serious consequences.

I am very proud of my brother for never smoking. Dwyane’s motto is “to succeed you must indeed do the best thing for the future.” He has touched many lives of people since he was put under pressure to do drugs. Arkadelphia now has a pretty good drug free soccer team thanks to Dwyane stepping up and being a leader. He will always be my hero no matter what people may say about him. This is why Dwyane Harvell is my Tobacco Tackle Hero!
