TPCP Receives Mental Health Grant - October 13th, 2011
TPCP has received a $91,000 grant award that will be used to expand the focus of tobacco cessation among the mental health population. TPCP will partner with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health, and the Mental Health Council of Arkansas in this project. It is estimated that persons with mental illness die on average 25 years earlier than the general population, with tobacco-related illnesses being a major contributor to these premature deaths. Providers and consumers of mental health services will now be able to access education and tobacco dependence treatment.
A press conference announcing the partnership was held on October 6 at the Arkansas State Capitol.
