CDC Launches New Media Campaign - April 18th, 2011

The CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health has launched a paid, public service, mass media campaign to raise awareness and shift attitudes and beliefs among target audiences about the harms of tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke.  The campaign will run in Arkansas and surrounding states.

The campaign launched on April 4, 2011 in HHS Region 6 (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas).  This region was selected because youth smoking rates are the highest in the nation, adult smoking rates are the second highest and the negative health effects of tobacco use are high. The campaign will run for 12 weeks from the launch date and will deliver integrated communication elements to Region 6 states via television, print, radio and outdoor advertising. Earned and social media support will also be integrated into the campaign.  The ads are targeted to reach smoking and nonsmoking adults ages 25 to 54 and parents with children in the home.
