Title of Event: Red Ribbon Parade, Rally, and Reception

Description of event: A red wagon parade lead by the El Dorado police and JROTC color guard will take place in downtown El Dorado with El Dorado High School PRIDE members pulling pre-school children. The parade will stop in front of the east steps of the Union County Courthouse, where the Union County judge will read a Red Ribbon Week Proclamation and students and adults will participate in a Drug-Free/Tobacco-Free rally featuring Union County cheer squads and elementary CHAMPS teams. The event concludes with a Red Ribbon reception inside the Union County Courthouse. Downtown merchants are also being encouraged to participate by decorating their doors and/or windows in red and offering discounts to anyone wearing a Red Ribbon.

Description of event: Students will have the opportunity to hear a presentation on the origin of Red Ribbon Week and receive prevention materials on Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs (ATOD). In an effort to decrease the percentage of students who perceive that parental attitudes are favorable to ATOD, pledge cards will be sent home asking parents to commit to not providing ATOD to children and to open lines of communication on this issue.
