Arkansas Youth Leadership Initiative: TCYB members present in Texas - October 12th, 2010
In late July, Tobacco Control Youth Board members took Texas by storm in order to engage, educate and enlighten workshop participants at the Texas Teen Tobacco Summit and Comprehensive Tobacco Prevention Conference, held at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. Members of TCYB presented two workshops: “History of Tobacco Industry Lies,” a multi-media, hands-on presentation about the lies of the tobacco industry from a historical perspective, and “Monkeys, Viruses, Flashes, and Tags: How YES Made it Happen” on Arkansas Tobacco Free Kids Day. Law enforcement officers, school administrators, drug counselors, youth advisors and middle school youth attended the conference. More than 135 of the 750 attendees participated in the workshops led by TCYB members: Josilyn Mitchell, Morgan Smith, Shelby Kilpatrick and Olivia Perez. TCYB presenters received rave reviews from conference planners and participants. As an added bonus, both adult and youth workshop attendees planned outside guerilla and viral marketing schemes and flash mobs during the conference. Led by TCYB members, the new efforts added a creative dynamic to the conference.
